# Expert Suggestions:

01 -
  • The exterior gets impossibly crispy while the inside stays tender, like the best part of fried chicken but plant-based.
  • The glaze strikes that perfect balance between sticky-sweet and genuinely spicy without overwhelming your palate.
  • You can have golden, glazed appetizers ready in under 40 minutes with minimal effort and cleanup.
02 -
  • Pressing your tofu is non-negotiable—skip this step and you'll get soggy, steamed disappointment no matter how hot your air fryer gets.
  • Don't crowd the air fryer basket, or the nuggets steam instead of fry, a hard lesson learned on my third batch.
  • The glaze must be warm when it hits the hot tofu so it clings and sets beautifully instead of sliding off.
03 -
  • If your panko isn't sticking well, dip each coated tofu cube quickly in a mixture of cornstarch and water before rolling in breadcrumbs for extra insurance.
  • Let the glaze cool for just a minute before tossing if your nuggets are brand new from the air fryer, or the breadcrumb coating will soften faster than you'd like.
